Message from the Dean

As an NCATE accredited university, California Lutheran University through its School of Education develops outstanding reflective, principled educators for schools and colleges in Ventura, Santa
Barbara and Los Angeles counties. We are driven by the values and beliefs in our STRIVE statement and put those beliefs into ACTION in our classrooms. Each STRIVE statement defines who we are as a school of education, and we model what we believe.

The CLU programs are meeting the needs of today’s schools and organizations. The quality programs offered in the areas of teacher education, counseling and guidance, and educational leadership are designed to meet the needs of a diverse 21st century society. They have been created so that you—as a potential or current student—will experience success as you apply the classroom theories to practical, real-life situations.

Our Web site describes some exciting new programs in the School of Education:

  1. Master of Science in the Education of the Deaf
Our deaf and hard of hearing master’s degree program fits perfectly into our ongoing efforts to inspire educational leaders for the 21st century for all of California’s children, including those with special needs. By offering this exciting new program at CLU, we will be the only public school-based teacher preparation program in the state which focuses on the teaching of spoken language to children with hearing loss using today’s hearing technologies. We have received enthusiastic support from the local educational community to improve student outcomes, particularly in the area of literacy. We will be working together with educators and parents to help all students who are deaf and hard of hearing achieve their full potential.
  2. Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership
Under the exemplary leadership of Dr. Dennis Sheridan, this new doctoral program is designed to serve educational leaders who desire to become more effective in leading higher education institutions and to position themselves for heightened leadership roles. The format of the program is ideal for the working professional: Class sessions are held on only three weekends each semester and are supplemented with Web-based technology. Summer sessions are devoted to completing the dissertation.

The faculty of the California Lutheran School of Education is committed to educational excellence. Students are taught by highly qualified and caring professors with abundant real-world experience. As a student, you will experience success as a future teacher, leader or counselor in our schools and colleges. Join the CLU family as we celebrate the past and embrace the future.
