About the Hewlett Grant and the Application Process

As part of the ongoing process of faculty professional development at CLU, the Faculty Affairs and Development Committee has access to limited funding to encourage professional growth, thanks to the Hewlett Foundation Endowment. An application form for faculty development grants funded through this program as well as the criteria for grants accompany this announcement. Funds up to $1250 are available for faculty projects or research, including sabbatical support, although not all awards will be at the $1250 level. Each proposal will be carefully evaluated and priority assigned according to the criteria specified in the accompanying material.

Hewlett applications for funding of future projects/activities are solicited once each semester. Since, like all proposals, these applications promise future work, the application is ideally submitted before the work is done. For example, if you are planning to travel to give a presentation as one of the outcomes of your project, you should apply to Hewlett before the travel occurs. However, we recognize that unexpected opportunities sometimes arise, so applications made within the same semester as the proposed travel will be considered.

Hewlett grant money is distributed only as a reimbursement of real expenses incurred after completion of the project/activity. Recipients of Hewlett awards will be required to file a report of development activity prior to request for reimbursement. The report may be filled out and submitted online, while the requests for reimbursement should be sent to the office of the Provost.

Applications should be completed and submitted online. The application deadline for the current funding cycle is listed at the top of the application page - no exceptions, please.

Expect e-mail confirmation that your application has been received; if you do not receive such an e-mail within 72 hours of submitting your application, contact Paul Hanson at hanson@callutheran.edu with this information.
